Following our introduction post on About Sotogrande, here are some ideas of things to do in this fabulous resort development….
Sotogrande Port and Marina
Today, the Sotogrande Marina offers a wide range of bars, bistros and restaurants catering for all tastes in both traditional and international fare. In the centre of the marina is the Hotel Club Maritimo de Sotogrande, which serves vacation and business visitors by offering all those services and facilities required by both, from restaurants and beauty centre to conference and meeting rooms.
The Real Club Maritimo in the canal area of the marina is also a great “rendez-vous” for members and visitors who would like to enjoy the wonderful sailing conditions that exist in the Sotogrande area.
The Sotogrande marina also offers those mooring at the port a gym/spa with sauna and shower facilities, as well as a marine supply store and heliport. The marina has become a focal point for meeting and mixing with neighbours and visitors, as well as a great place to do some shopping, followed by a lazy lunch on one of the restaurant terraces overlooking the private yachts.
Sports at Sotogrande
In addition to the yachting facilities at the Marina, Sotogrande is well known for a wide variety of sporting activities. There are 5 golf courses, including the famous Valderrama Golf Club where the Volvo Masters and the Ryder Cup have been held in the past, the Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande and the Almenara Golf Resort; the Santa Maria Polo Club with 6 world famous polo fields where, every year during the month of August International Polo Tournaments take place (including, on a number of occasions, the Land Rover International Polo Tournament); tennis and padel tennis clubs; rugby club; riding stables; and a variety of beach clubs such as the new Trocadero Sotogrande (the latest addition to the Marbella Trocadero Group of beach restaurants and clubs), which offers a relaxed day out or evening with family and friends.
Some of the richest and most powerful families in Spain have summer homes in Sotogrande and thanks to its many international sporting events, especially polo, golf and sailing, this beautiful resort attracts big names not only from the sports world but also from a number of different social and professional backgrounds: politicians, bankers, actors, TV programme hosts, as well as people with royal lineage.
