Living the 007 Lifestyle in Marbella
James Bond. Unquantifiably cool, stylish and elegant with a taste for the high life—in fact, the perfect fit for Marbella. With the release of Spectre—the 24th in the hugely successful movie franchise—the British Spy is in the public eye once more, so we thought we would take a look at how to have your very own Bond moment in Marbella.
Life’s a beach
Beach scenes are a recurring theme in Bond movies and arguably the ultimate, and most iconic, is of course in Dr No, when Ursula Andress emerges from the Caribbean Sea onto a golden sandy beach. While Marbella cannot provide the Swiss bombshell herself, the town’s beaches do rival some of those found in the tropical paradises so favoured in Bond movies.
Shaken not stirred
Back in the 1960s the idea of a Martini cocktail ‘shaken not stirred’ showed the world the sophisticated and hedonistic lifestyle of the gourmand Bond. Well, Marbella has no shortage of classy venues at which to sip a cocktail or two, although the modern day mixologists will certainly have a more up to date combination to tempt you with. Bond’s favourite Champagnes—Dom Pérignon and Bollinger—are not in short supply either. Try the Marbella Club, Puente Romano or one of the iconic beach clubs.
Dressed to kill
The super spy is always dressed to kill, and in Marbella there are many establishments that offer stylish designer labels to look the part. In Spectre, Daniel Craig wears a selection of Tom Ford clothing—so if you really want to look like Bond, pop along to the Tom Ford Boutique in Puerto Banús.
Super car heaven
Bond would not be Bond without his super cars—with the glaring exception of the Citroen 2CV Roger Moore ended up driving in For Your Eyes Only. In fact, in Marbella it is probably harder to find a 2CV than one of the Aston Martins, BMWs and Bentleys that feature in the films and books as 007’s wheels of choice. Just take a stroll around Puerto Banús for a glimpse of a super car. Which brings us on to….
Life on the ocean waves
It must be said that Mister Bond—as he was always known to his unfailingly polite yet incredibly evil arch enemies—never stinted when it came to yachts and power boats, and neither did the villains. In recent movies a selection of Sunseeker yachts have been featured. To see one close up take a walk along the marina in Puerto Banús and you are sure to spot several fine examples.
In the rarified world in which Bond circulates there have been some impressive mansions in exotic locations. This is something in which Marbella truly can rival the best in the world. This stunning contemporary mansion in Cascada de Camoján on Marbellas’s Golden Mile is modern, stylish and elegant, with stunning views to Africa. It would not be out of place in a Bond movie.
