Ferias of Spain – Marbella and Málaga Andalusian Fairs

From the main Málaga fair coloured with local verdales and spontaneous flamenco outbursts, to international celebrations in Fuengirola, the Feria de San Bernabé in Marbella, or one of the other smaller celebrations in local town centres, the Costa del Sol offers an incredible range of ferias throughout the warmer months for locals and visitors to enjoy the best of Spanish culture all summer long.

One of the greatest things about Andalusian Spanish culture is how deeply they understand the art of enjoyment. This is perhaps best expressed through the local feria when each town’s historic centre comes alive with traditional flamenco dress, music, drinks, cuisine, and a festive atmosphere that spills into the streets and evening carnivals.

A Celebration of Life on the Costa del Sol

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: if there’s something the Spanish do exceptionally well, it’s live. In Andalusian culture, that joy is present daily – in the plazas, at the beach, in the markets, and in Marbella’s vibrant dining and nightlife. Naturally, this zest for life extends to summer, when local coastal towns unveil their own programme of fairs, processions, concerts and parties to accompany the legendary Starlite music festival and ensure the season is as rich in tradition as it is in entertainment.

Each of these ferias presents a colourful program of events, including local live flamenco music, performances, modern popular music, and feria traditions. There is usually a competition for the Reinas and Damas (the Queen and Ladies of the fair), who appear on stage and enjoy special fair privileges like unlimited free rides in the evening events. In true Spanish style, most evening carnivals also offer the dia del niño (Kids Day), where many attractions offer discounted prices to make the event more affordable and enjoyable for families.

But when it comes to Spanish ferias, no two are identical. Each town adds its own flavour – from Málaga’s famous verdiales, to the cosmopolitan flair of Fuengirola’s Feria Internacional de los Paises, or the historic homage of Marbella’s Feria de San Bernabé. Whichever suits your style, owning a Costa del Sol property allows you to enjoy all these events and the wonderful Spanish Mediterranean lifestyle all year round. Below, we explore the most notable ferias in and around Marbella, complete with their 2025–2026 dates, so you can plan your Andalusian summer celebrations ahead of time.

Feria de Málaga – The Luxury of Living Close to Tradition

Probably the largest event in the Málagueño calendar, the Feria de Málaga is just a 50-minute drive from Marbella, making it an easy day trip for residents and visitors. A true celebration of local Malageño culture, intertwined with Andalusian tradition and the international language of celebration.

In 2025, the fería of Málaga will start on Friday 15 August with a firework spectacular over the Mediterranean Sea from the central La Malagueta beach, marking the start of more than a week of music, colour, and Andalusian tradition. In 2026, the Malaga Feria is scheduled to run from 13 – 20 August, if you are planning a visit ahead.

Held in honour of the Catholic Monarchs’ reconquest of the city on 18 August 1487, the feria unfolds in two equally captivating settings. By day, Málaga’s historic centre – with the elegant Calle Larios as its focal point – is brought to life with lanterns, live music, and spontaneous flamenco dances by the many happy participants. You’ll also encounter verdiales, a folk music and dance tradition from the Málaga region, performed in bright costumes with tambourines, guitars, and violins, adding a rural charm to the celebrations.

Many attendees dress in colourful polka-dot traditional flamenco dresses decorated with roses, frills, and tassels, turning the streets into a living tapestry of tradition and joy. Casetas and bars serve tapas, local rebujito cocktails, and Málaga’s sweet Cartojal wine, fostering a lively, welcoming atmosphere.

At night, the party shifts to the Real del Cortijo de Torres fairground, where in 2025 an illuminated arch inspired by the historic Kiosk of the Embarcadero de la Reina Isabel II will greet thousands of visitors into the carnival events. With over 200 casetas – ranging from family-friendly to music-focused – plus rides, a nearby equestrian centre, and concerts by well-known artists like Chambao, Camela, Merche, and Mojinos Escozíos – feria nights in Málaga promise to be unforgettable, filled with energy and rhythm. If you are planning to go in 2025, take a look at the map of Málaga Feria casetas so you don’t miss a thing.

Feria Internacional de los Paises, Fuengirola

At the turn of spring to summer, Fuengirola hosts one of the Costa del Sol’s most unique events – the Feria Internacional de los Paises (International Fair of Countries), also sometimes called Feria of the People or Feria de los Pueblos. Scheduled for 29 April – 3 May in 2026, it takes place at the Fuengirola Recinto Ferial on the outskirts of the town centre, where the multicultural fair transforms the town into an open-air celebration of more than 30 nations, with each country’s caseta offering its own music, dance, drinks, and signature dishes from around 12 noon to late every day.

Visitors can sample Argentine steaks, Belgian beers, Korean street food, enjoy Brazilian samba rhythms and many other international cultural delights – all in a single event. Daily parades, folk performances, and vibrant evening shows make this feria a truly global celebration that is a local favourite, drawing crowds from around the coast.

This is all in addition to the typical Andalusian old-town feria and carnival rides that all the ferias offer, making it an open-air melting pot of global gastronomy, artisan crafts, music, and dance, and an event not to missed for those looking to celebrate culture and life on the Costa del Sol.

Feria de San Bernabé – Marbella’s Own

Marbella’s most cherished annual tradition, the Feria de San Bernabé takes place the second week of June in tribute to the city’s patron saint, next scheduled for 8-14 June 2026. Expect casetas with live flamenco, carnival rides, concerts, fireworks, and a warm, convivial spirit that brings the whole community together.

As Marbella´s Mayor Ángeles Muñoz Uriol explains,¨These parties are much more than a celebration with a red cross in the calendar. The Feria of San Bernabé is a reflection of our traditions, a tribute to our roots and a unique opportunity to meet again with friends and family, to reinforce the ties that unite us¨. She reflects that feria are ¨Days in which the heart of our city beats stronger than ever and our streets are filled with colour¨.

The celebrations typically begin with a picturesque pre-feria dance party at the end of May and then a Sunday of romería – starting with complementary churros, procession through the streets to the statue of the Patron Saint in Parque de Nagueles, followed by a church service, concerts and paella.

The following week, when the feria officially begins, the festivities divide into two complementary worlds: daytime celebrations in the historic old town – full of processions (pasacalles), live music, casetas, and dancing and a nighttime fairground near La Cañada shopping centre, where the space comes alive with carnival rides, concerts, games, fireworks, food, drinks, concerts and general conviviality.

If you see a copy of the Feria magazine, pick it up to browse the full details of everything on offer. You can also take a look at our selection of Marbella area rental properties to find somewhere stylish to stay for the week.

Feria of Benahavís – A Mountain Village Gem

The mountain village of Benahavís hosts a more intimate but equally spirited feria that will be celebrated 14-17 August 2025. Over four days, visitors to the feria of Benahavís enjoy traditional rituals, live flamenco and brass bands, children’s entertainment, free paella and grills, processions, evening dances, and a fireworks-studded finale – all enjoying the charming backdrop of the Meditteranean and Sierra de las Nieves mountains in this picturesque little town around a 20-minute drive from Marbella.

Other Notable Ferias Around Marbella

Another thing we love about Marbella is that all the town halls offer smaller ferias and a calendar of local events. These neighbourhood ferias also mix carnival rides, concerts, tapas stalls, music, and community warmth on a smaller scale- perfect for a more local, laid-back experience closer to home, without the crowds of the main town events. Here is a list of some of the smaller local ferias surrounding Marbella, and their dates:-

  • Nueva Andalucía – Third week of July
  • Las Chapas – First weekend of August
  • San Pedro Alcántara feria – Third week of October, scheduled for 14 – 19 October 2025
  • Estepona – Early July (similar, but more relaxed than Marbella)
  • Cancelada – Scheduled for 21-24 August 2025
  • La Cala de Mijas- Late July, featuring a traditional lighting ceremony

Living Among the Ferias

Marbella, being Marbella, is a year-round hub for celebrations and a beacon for enjoying life on the Mediterranean – from beer festivals to open-air food truck gatherings – it offers the perfect combination of exclusivity, sea, culture, and tradition, where every day can turn into an unforgettable experience.

The summer feria season is just another highlight of an already vibrant cultural calendar. Check your local ayuntamiento calender for events near you, and keep an eye out around town for signs of upcoming events – and enjoy!

But enjoying all of this every year is as simple as choosing to live, buy or visit here. We´d love to hear from you to help you find the right place for you in Marbella, Benahavís or Estepona areas.
